Political parties participating in Sunday's elections for the mayor of Podujevo and North Mitrovica municipality have delivered no complaints to the Election Panel for Anxiety and Parashta (PZAP), though there have been warnings of such a thing from political parties.
The chairman of the Electoral Panel for Anxiety and Parastance, Shukri Sylejmani, told Kosovo that they did not accept any complaints about Sunday's election.
He says how PZAP has been willing to deal with the political parties' eventual complaints about the election process in both municipalities, and not file complaints according to him, could be taken as the reason the elections have been fair and quiet.
“Although not exactly a small number of complaints related to Day of Voter have been warned, they have not been brought to the Election Panel for Anxiety and Parastre. We as an institution have been on alert all Sunday even though the length of complaints to political subjects and independent candidates runs from 19 on Sunday until 19 on Monday. We have been on PZAP all the administrative staff and panel ready to deal with those complaints, but they are not. This appears to be the reflection of a general conclusion that these elections have been calm and fair”, he said.
However, he says that complaints by political parties participating in Sunday's elections could also take place during the vote count phase and after the final declaration of the election result.
This does not mean that, in later stages, later procedures will have no complaints. On the contrary, there might also be a later phase, which is the counting phase and the stage of the final declaration of the election result in which there may be complaints. We as an institution are ready, we are on alert, so that in terms of us there will be no problem to deal with these complaints, to be fully reviewed in order for these elections to finally prove fair, fair, acceptable to all political subjects”, he said.
Sylejmani indicated that it is the first time that in an election process there have been no complaints by political parties participating in that election.
The “has never occurred in an election process for municipal elections, that for general elections it is known, do not then complain. This may give some findings that have now changed even election cultures, elections are more fair, are calmer, and, in the end, are also acceptable”, he said.
On Sunday in the Podujevo and North Mitrovica municipality, extraordinary elections have been held to elect the mayor. The Podujevo candidate has won LV candidate Speedy Bulliqi, while in northern Mitrovica Serbian List candidate Milan Radojevic.
