The Central Election Commission is in the final phase of preparations for organising extraordinary elections for the mayor of the Podujevo and North Mitrovica municipality, which will be held on November 29th. According to planning with the Operational Plan, arrangements for polling stations will remain on Saturday. As of Sunday in the early hours of the morning, it will become the delivery of sensitive election material, including ballot papers. Of course, for the CEC these elections are different from past times, precisely because they are organised in time of pandemic, so the CEC requires citizens' understanding of the implementation of defence measures”, Elez said.
Elez has also revealed the number of citizens who because of the positive test with COVID-19 are in domestic quarantine and because of restrictive measures cannot go to the polls.
The Municipal Election Commission has contacted citizens with a fair vote from the Podujevo municipality, which is in domestic quarantine due to a positive test with COVID-19. About 500 people have been contacted, and almost half of them have expressed their will to vote through one of the launch teams that Sunday we are sending to the addresses of these voters. Meanwhile, 21 persons have been contacted in northern Mitrovica, and many have so far expressed the will to vote. All the people who were contacted by the Municipal Election Commissions of these two municipalities belong to the official list we have accepted”, Elez said.
According to the CEC, the number of accredited observers to monitor the election process in these two municipalities is about 1,000 and 700 observers. The largest number of them represent political subjects participating in the elections, then from non-government local organisations as well as from local and international media.
The CEC has called for citizens' understanding of the implementation of measures taken in order to protect health.
