They noticed a group of large saliva glands (called tuberial saliva glands) placed behind their noses; exactly in the corner where the nose hollow meets the throat. But what is their purpose?
Evidently, glands are there to urinate and wet the throat area behind your nose and mouth, reports The New York Times.
The discovery of glands has been a shock to many scientists, leaving them shocked about how they went unnoticed for so long.
Dr. Wutter Vogel, a radiant oncologist at the Dutch Cancer Institute, said: People have three sets of big saliva glands, but not there. As far as we knew, the only saliva or mucosa glands in the nazopharing are microscopically small and up to 1,000 are equally distributed throughout the mucosa. So imagine our surprise when we found these. ”
