Downloads, scandals, rebukes and a sandwich: October, turbulent month for Avdullah Hoti

It all started on October 1st when it was reported that Prime Minister Hoti often ate ready-made sandwich in his office. This news was given to the media by Deputy Prime Minister Driton Selmanaj. But what would follow the sandwich was not expected by a government they all described as weak. On October 8, the National [...]

On October 8th, Kosovo's national football, the men's category, was defeated 2-1 by Macedonia and lost every chance of participation in the European Championship. However, the scandals surrounding football people were quite overwhelming compared to what awaited us on October 9th.

On October 9, there were three significant events. In the first time, during the pause, Labinot Gruda would receive a total of 2 million and 77 thousand and 990 euros in various bank accounts.

But on October 9th, during the afternoon hours, the US Embassy in Pristina withdrew from the recruiting process at the Prosecutorial Council, naming the system “to be ground-breaking”.

In the evening hours of the same day, Haki Rugova, deputy chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo, was arrested -- events that had the potential to generate another scandal.

Several days later, the LDK chairman held a media conference denouncing the arrest of his deputy leader on charges of corruption and misuse of duty by thus directly interfering with the work of justice.

A week after October 9th, on the 16th, Prime Minister Hoti makes another unexpected decision: dismissing the Kosovo Police Director, Mr. Rashit Qalaj. The PDK and VV ) the two opposition parties saw Qalaj's dismissal as revenge for Rugova's arrest. Hoti said the dismissal was based on his performance assessment, Periscope reports.

And it was October 19th when Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti decided to abolish the decision on which the existence of the anti-corruption task force established in 2010. He had named this task-force as “the unconstitutional”. The media reported that this task-force had been investigating a suspicious tender of another Hoti partner, Mr. Agim Veliu.

This decision was strongly reproved by our international partners.

In those same days about October 19th, the question of the 2.1 million theft was being widely discussed after it was made public by the media. Even the scandal increased to the extent of the blames already taking place among the ministries headed by the LDK ministers themselves. The financial one headed by Hykmete Bajrami was blamed for allowing a worker to have access even though he was sent to another job. Infrastructure led by Arba Abrashi had denied such a thing, calling the minister the ill-formed “ ”.

On October 28th, Driton Selmanaj closed the month, posting with the prime minister's sandwich in hand.

It was during yesterday's day that the Constitutional Court was reported to have ruled in connection with MP Eem Arifi's vote already in prison for corruption and that this decision allowed Vetevendosje, which led the government to be illegal. That would mean the government's collapse. But can Hoti also shut down the Constitutional Court to save itself?
