Wessel: Our nation is proud to help Jews in the worst human tragedy

Chairman The PDK, Kadri Wessel, has remembered the Holocaust's day today, remembering the death of millions of Jewish citizens.

Wessel has written on his Facebook page that Albanians are proud of the noble example of our nation, which in the worst moments of this human tragedy, as few others were placed on the right and proper side of history, offering shelter and hospitality to persecuted Jews throughout Europe.

Today we mark the Holocaust Memorial Day and pay tribute to six million children, elders, women, and Jewish men, as well as to all other victims brutally murdered during the Holocaust. We today are proud of the noble example of our nation, which in the most serious moments of this human tragedy, as few others stood on the right and proper side of history, offering shelter and hospitality to persecuted Jews throughout Europe. This anniversary makes it even more significant, the fact that just a few days ago, the Sharri family from Prizren, was honoured by the state of Israel and Yad Vashem with the certificate of honor and the decoration of “Laws between the Kombe” for the refuge and salvation of a Jewish family. It should also be said that few other peoples can understand with compassion as well as we do suffering and the consequences of monstrous crimes committed against the Jewish people because even the Albanian people are still fresh at the expense of genocide and ethnic cleansing. Therefore, this day should serve to reflect on the horrors of the past but also to condemn, today and forever, any form of violence or hatred that is based on racism, anti-Semitism, or any kind of prejudice about personal belonging
