US President Donald Trump said today that the collapse of a Ukrainian plane may have been a mistake, but added that he had a terrible feeling about the case, giving no more details.
“Someone may have made a mistake”, Trump told reporters at the White House.
Newsweek reported today that the Ukrainian plane, which crashed not far from Tehran, was hit by a Russian-made Tor-M1 missile. The paper referred to unnamed Pentagon officials, American and Iraqi intelligence.
Pentagon and US intelligence officials told Newsweek that the plane was accidentally hit.
Iranian antiaircraft units are likely to be active following a missile attack on US bases in Iraq that followed in response to Iranian General Qasem Solejmani's American murder, sources said.
The plane crashed just hours after an Iranian missile attack on two Iraqi bases being used by American forces, raising speculation that the plane may have been hit, Reuters reports
