Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has pledged to co-operate with the prime minister's mandate to postpone the country's efforts for membership in the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).
Thaci has told “Bloomberg” that he expects Kosovo to have the new government very soon.
“We have one goal: to move as quickly as possible towards European integration, and to become part of NATO”, Thaci said on Tuesday, during an interview given in the margins of the World Economic Forum, held in Davos, Switzerland.
On Monday, Thaci has given Kurti a party whose Vetevendosje Movement has won the October 6th 2019 early parliamentary elections to establish the new government.
Talks on forming a coalition have been lasting since several months, as the first two parties, who had been in opposition to the past legislature, have been pushing for key posts and the right to propose the country's candidate for president next year.
Thaci has also welcomed an agreement signed Monday between Serbia and Kosovo, which was mediated by the United States, and will allow for re-activation of flights between the capitals of the two states for the first time since the war between them in 1998-1999.
He has said the agreement should be viewed as a crucial “step towards normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia, the EU condition for the two pre-member states.
