German Chancellor Angela Merkel will be expected today in Moscow for talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin under Iraqi-American tensions and the war in Libya, crises that Moscow has a significant impact.
The visit occurred while Tehran today admitted that he had accidentally attacked a Ukrainian airline plane, causing 176 dead, as several Western countries, including the US, charged.
A senior Russian official asked Iran to learn lessons from the tragedy, while the Ukrainian president demanded that the guilty be punished.
Merkel will be expected in the Russian capital, the first visit to Russia since the May 2018 meeting in Sotchi with the Russian president.
Besides the Iranian issue, the two leaders will focus a portion of their discussions on the issue in Libya, where Moscow sought, in co-operation with Turkey, the establishment of a ceasefire starting from Sunday.
