Anti-government rallies had begun on 17 October last year and are continuing even in the month of the new year. They are demanding that the new government be formed as soon as possible in order to solve economic problems.
Protesters are demanding that the new cabinet consist only of independent experts and power be fully excluded from traditional political parties.
In the central part of Beirut, dozens of protesters stayed among parked cars, blocking an important route connecting the eastern and western parts.
We don't want a government with masked political figures. We have blocked the road with cars, because these cannot be moved police”, said Marwan Karam, one of the protesters who had taken to the streets.
