Kosovo Police General Director Rashit Qalaj says that in the northern part, Kosovo Police are acting and working without a problem until even co-operation with citizens there is much better compared to the past years.
I think that if we talk about success of the Kosovo police and refer to the northern part of the country, I can say that success is that police in the north work and do police work without a problem. The security situation is better than the past years. Citizens have begun to trust the Kosovo police more in the northern part than in the past years and have launched greater co-operation between citizens and the country's police, even in the northern side of”, Qalaj told Online Economy.
We will act whenever there is a need to arrest suspects and send them to justice bodies regardless of where they act and live. Police have managed to destroy many criminal groups across the country even in the northern part, and Kosovo police will work to treat all of the same”.
Qalaj has also talked about general statistics of various criminal cases, which compared to past years have had a notable decline.
And I can say that at the beginning of every year, even our institution is drafting the targets for next year, I can say that it was our goal to have reduced cases by 5 percent and increase the intelligence of cases at the country level. I can say that these parameters have been exceeded several times. I can say that the number of cases submitted to the Kosovo Police from January 1st 2019 to December 23rd of 2019 has marked a drop of -9.04 percent while the number of criminal acts that took place during this period of time until December 23rd is -16.21 percent”.
The number of thefts has marked reductions -23.2 percent, the number of heavy thefts has marked reductions, the number of robberies has marked a 41.7 percent drop, and then we've had a very low number of cases that have occurred in religious cultural heritage objects -13.25 percent, and we've had far fewer interethnic cases, cases where suspects and victims are members of different communities in Kosovo, and this is -40 percent”, he said.
