Ismail Kadare today turns 84

Kadare was born in Gjirokastra, where she finished middle education. Kadare is one of the most contemporary genius writers, sometimes nominated for the “Nobel” literature. He stands out for novels, novels, but has also published volumes of poetry.

In 1958 he finished his language and literature branch at the University of Tirana to continue in Moscow for two years at the World Literature Institute “Maxim Gorki” (1958-1960). Kadare is one of the greatest writers of Albanian literature and also one of the greatest writers of contemporary world literature.

With his work, which has marked a record number of translations (over 45 foreign languages), he has made Albania known in the world, with its history and centuries - old culture.

The path of literary creativity began as a poet since the years of youth inspiration, 1954, “Dreams”, (1957), but it became especially familiar with the volume My Century (1961), followed by other poetic volumes, such as: Why do these mountains (1964), sunny weather (1968) and Time (1976). Ismail Kadare's poetic work stands out for deep ideas and rich and original imagery; a role of importance for enriching Albanian poetry.

In the prose field, Ismail Kadare has released the story, novel and novel. Ismail Kadare's first major work in prose is the unanticipated novel “City without ads”, which was not allowed to be published in full by 2003. Its prose characterizes the generalities of history-filozofic things, the densely packed subject and the deep thought often expressed through the parable, on the basis of association or historical analogys.

The idea of the novel General of the Dead Army (1964) is the lyrical spirit of the Albanian people. The subject of the unbeatable spirit of Albanians for centuries was also discussed in the novel Castle (1975). In the Chronic novel on stone (1970) Kadare criticised provincial psychology and behind-the-back traditions.

Important history problems have also been dealt with in collections of stories of the previous Novela Embemma (1977), the three - bow Bridge (1978) and the Mullbloods (1980). The unique talent of Ismail Kadare is especially evident in the treatment, from a new perspective, from a historical theme, and in the sharp current sound capable of giving it.

One of the most remarkable creations of Ismail Kadare and all new Albanian literature is the novel Dream Palace (1981). Most of Ismail Kadare's works have been translated and published into over 45 languages of the world and received very well by the reader public. He is the most popular Albanian writer in the world.

In the autumn of 1990, Ismail Kadare decided to leave Albania and stay in Paris. The writer at the time condemned this evacuation by “the lack of democratic changes”.

Time authorities condemned the removal of Ismail Kadare, but his creativity was not banned. In 1990 his work becomes the most powerful expression of language and artistic value of literary Albanian. Ismail Kadare's literature after 1990 carries the same basic features of the previous one: the ethnographic spirit and the spread of Albanian identity.

Ismail Kadare is the laureate of many national and international literary awards. Since 1994, Kadare has been a member of the French Academy of Moral and Political Sciences and Foreign Member of A. SHAK.

He was a delegate to the Fair Congress (1972).

In 2005 he won the “The Booker Price Man” award. Ismail Kadare has been decorated by the president of the Republic of Albania with the “Nder of the Nation” and by the French state with orders “Kryqi of the Honor Legion” and “offer of the Honour Legion”.

Ismail Kadare in 23.06.2012 was awarded the grand Spanish Award, “the Prince of Asturias for Literature”, one of the world's prestigious literary awards. It proved victorious among 31 candidates from 25 different countries of the world, where the name of Milan Kounderas or Italian Antonio Cabukchi stands out. Ismail Kadare also wrote the famous “Gesher from Galdi's love of Arife”.
