Calling for the quickest formation of the Government of Kosovo has made foreign diplomatic missions in Kosovo, especially those of powerful states like: US, Great Britain and Germany. But how much will international pressure affect LVV and LDK to link the ruling coalition?
Shpend Amy from the non-government D4D organisation has said the current political situation is the same as those in 2014 and 2017.
“The trend of political crises that followed the 2014 elections and those in 2017 are also passing the October 2019 election process. What is happening now is a situation similar to that of 2014 when a practice of blockade and holding the government's formation process hostage to the winning party's will. It is now clear that the VV and LDK must get out of the chair of talks as soon as possible and form the government”, he has said.
Emini said the new Kosovo government should not be formed by international pressure, but under an agreement between the two parties, based on programmes that have already been discussed and reconciled by the teams of the two parties.
Any pressure and quick agreement would affect the success and life expectancy of this government, taking into account that no government in Kosovo has managed to complete the full mandate. This process is not endless, so both the VV and LDK must find compromise and form the government, or in case of a coalition compromise and formation failed to proceed according to constitutional procedures”, he said.
In the end, Emini said that in the event of the formation of the Government, the Assembly of Kosovo must begin with electoral reforms.
“In the event of the government's formation, Kosovo's Assembly must immediately begin with electoral reform, but also the constitutional one that would change the rules, especially the post-election ones that create crisis in institutions since 2014”, he said of Telegrafi.
Otherwise, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has since 6 January called on the Vetevendosje Movement to submit the mandate's name for forming the government, but the LVV has not yet submitted an official letter to the presidency, the name of the mandate.
