House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the order Mr. Trump gave for the fearful attack that killed Iranian General Qasem Solejman last week was issued without consulting Congress.
Administration officials informed Congress of the issue the day before, but it appears lawmakers have raised questions about how justified the attack was.
“It is not acceptable for officials within the government to tell us that we cannot debate or discuss how justified or not was military intervention against Iran. This does not match American principles and is unconstitutional and wrong”, Republican Senator Mike Lee said.
My point on this issue is that they didn't prove in any way, the facts supporting the claim there was a threat as close as it was, so that means someone had decided to attack American forces and kill a large number of Americans”, Democrat senator Chris Van Hollen said.
The resolution will likely be adopted in the House of Representatives, where the Democrats enjoy the majority, but it is likely to happen in the Senate, which is controlled by the Republicans.
