The United States and China have signed an agreement aimed at facilitating a trade struggle that has shaken markets and hit the global economy.
Speaking in Washington, US President Donald Trump said the pact would be “transformative” for the US economy.
Senior Chinese officials called it a <x0fittorial agreement” that would help strengthen better relations between the two countries.
China has pledged to increase US imports by $200 billion, above 2017 levels, and to strengthen intellectual property regulations.
In exchange, the US has agreed to halve some of the new tariffs it has set for Chinese products.
President Trump has said at the end of last year that he, after signing the agreement called “The First Page”, will travel to Beijing to start talks on the next phase of the agreement.
The United States launched a trade fight against Beijing a year and a half ago after being accused of unfair trade practices, such as stealing American intellectual property and state subsidies that benefit Chinese companies.
