Tahiri: Anti-corruption Pact, new moment in fighting it

Acting Justice Minister Abelard Tahiri urges political parties to support the initiative of Democratic Party of Kosovo chairman Kadri Veselini and sign the Anti-Corruption Pact. “Such an effort should be an example of political making and a permanent standard among political subjects participating in elections [...]

“Such an effort should be an example of policy making and a permanent standard among political subjects participating in the October elections, and also a standard that should be valid in any period that follows.

It is vital that our citizens have the opportunity to choose for representation, integrity candidates, who are not suspected of corruption and abuse of power and who are not serious in the face of law”, Tahiri has stated in the media report.

Minister Tahiri's full statement:

Fighting corruption and abuse of power is fought not only by law organs but also by preventing abusive culture and abolishing acts of corruption.

The initiative of the president of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Mr. Kadri Wessel, presented yesterday as the Anti-Corruption Pact, marks a new moment of anti-corruption, nepotism and abuse.

As such, this Pact is in line with the spirit of legal changes that I have undertaken in the two years of mandate as justice minister and in the spirit of decontamination of the political sphere, issues that are necessary to ensure effective, responsible and accounting governance.

Such an effort should be an example of political making and a permanent standard among political subjects participating in the October elections, and also a standard that should be applied in any period that follows.

It is vital that our citizens have the opportunity to choose for representation, for integrity candidates, who are not suspected of corruption and misuse of power and have no hard fight against the law.

In this case, I invite all political parties to follow Mr. Wessel and sign the “Anti-Corruption Act”, as an expression of determination and willingness to build a new political spirit against corruption, against abuse of power and causes that allow for misuse.
