The court has only accepted the accusation of <x0 use of duty”, condemning Saimir Tahiri to 5 years of freedom, but this decision has been converted into a trial service for 3.4 years.
The Randa Criminals Prosecutor sought 12 years in prison for the former minister, but with the final request cut to 8 years.
The prosecution accused Tahiri of three criminal acts: “narcotics trafficking” in co-operation in the form of the structured criminal group, “the head of criminal acts by”, “the structured criminal group”.
“Test Service activism is a public service performed in the interest of the community, aimed at social rehabilitation of offenders, lowering the risk of repeating criminal acts and increasing social security. The application of alternative prison sentences is aimed at reducing social costs of criminal penalties and preserving social security”, the Constitution of Albania said.
After the sentence, Saimir Tahiri, after leaving the war crimes court, has said it proved that he is not a criminal.
“Gjykata said I'm not a criminal, I'm not a smuggler, I'm not part of a structured criminal group, but since we've used a car with some cousins, I've been found guilty of abuse of office”, the former interior minister said.
Tahiri sometimes viewed the verdict handed down by the Court as absurd today, where he was sentenced to 3.4 years of trial service only on charges of using a “task”. He warned he would appeal that decision as well.
