Kosovo President Hashim Thaci is staying at UN headquarters, where he is holding important meetings with leaders of different countries.
Thaci will also attend the United Nations General Assembly until he has spoken in an interview about the meetings he has held there.
President Thaci has indicated this is an extraordinary opportunity for Kosovo.
“is an extraordinary opportunity for the new state of Kosovo to participate in the General Assembly of the United Nations Organisation to confirm our citizenship, internal consolidation and affirmation at the International Plain”, Thaci said.
President Thaci has also talked about his meeting with Vatican representatives and Greece's prime minister, adding that they are in the phase of Kosovo's recognition.
I had the satisfaction of meeting with presidents of different countries during these days, with other prime ministers and leaders of countries who have supported and recognised Kosovo, but also held meetings with Vatican representatives and the prime minister of Greece who are in the phase of recognising Kosovo”, Thaci said further.
Next, Thaci has also talked about meeting with Balkan leaders and EU representatives, showing he will meet with US representatives and President Donald Trump.
I think it was a good opportunity to discuss both bilateral and European co-operation in Kosovo, and then at the Western Balkan countries' meeting with representatives, Mrs. Moghrin and others. They were good opportunities to present Kosovo's achievements and our pledges for the European and Euro-Atlantic future. Meetings will continue today with US representatives, Mr. Ricoer, while evening with President Trump and NATO Secretary General. It is a busy agenda of important meetings with countries that are potentially Kosovo partners, supporters of Kosovo, but also with countries that are still reluctant to recognise Kosovo state”, Thaci said.
Furthermore, asked whether specific topics have been discussed about talks with Serbia, Thaci indicated that no specific topics have been discussed.
“There were meetings where general topics were discussed there was nothing specific, each representing its country. I have estimated that Kosovo has entered a new chapter, possibly necessary elections. I have expressed my opinion with full conviction that the elections will be free, fair and democratic, and Kosovo will soon form the government, government as much incriminating as possible, that people will have full legitimacy, good governance and, of course, full rule of law and work for the European future.”, Thaci said further.
Asked about meeting with Donald Trump, Thaci said the current US president is a major supporter of Kosovo, while seeing as the privilege I will represent Kosovo at this meeting.
Thaci has also added that at this meeting I will reconfirm the position that Kosovo should forever maintain special friendship with the US.
President Trump and the administration of President Trump have strongly supported Kosovo, as has other administrations, and President Trump has always emphasised Kosovo as a country and a wonderful people. So I have full confidence that Trump and his associates will be in full support of the strengthening of the state of Kosovo today even in the future. And Kosovo will once again pledge that I will forever maintain special friendship with the United States, it will be my great opportunity to represent the state of Kosovo at the meeting with President Trump”, Thaci said.
