New Plan to Restore the Tower of Artana

The medievally built fortress will continue to be restored by the Serbian company, despite the Kosovo institutions said they will seek out the contract with it. The EU Office has said that authorisation for relaunching the works will be taken from the Institute for Protection of Monuments and that in the second week [...]
This was the last action the Serbian company “Koto” took at Artana's fortress during Monday.
After that, the Institute for Protection of Monuments ordered the suspension of rehabilitation works, as these interventions considered unprofessional.
But they're missing out on U. NESTO, this organization that is tasked with implementing the project.
They even say that such an act was consistent with the approved plan.
In a response to T7 television, George Papagyanis, from this organisation said that Serbian company's works were being implemented according to U request. NESCOS.
“Works were being implemented according to our request, according to the approved plan for intervention and according to the authorisation of the work, on July 16, 2019”.
But by W NESTO has not indicated whether they have information on the interruption of these works.
However, this information for T7 was provided by the European Union's office in Kosovo.
This institution even confirmed that U. NESTO has assured that the Serbian company will not begin rehabilitation of damaged walls without obtaining authorisation from the institute.
That a new work programme will be prepared for restoration, the EU Office told T7 television.
On September 5, 2019, we were informed by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports that the Kosovo Institute for Protection of Monuments has ordered the suspension of rehabilitation works. We understand that a new work program will be prepared and delivered to the Institute as of September 2nd week”.
And from the European Union stressed the importance of respecting legislation, adding that they expect the contractor to repair the damage according to their contracting obligation.
While the Serbian company “Koto” claims all this event has been shocking to them, since they have permission to do work by the U. NESTO.
Even for T7, they said that many Albanians have participated in the project and that cultural heritage, according to them, has not been damaged.
“U n NESTO did not demand that intervention be stopped. U n NESTO is asking us to fulfil our contract obligations and fix the defects. We want to assure you that the defects have been observed only in the new parts of the tower that we built, but not in the historical and archaeological part of the tower”.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports have already decided to ask for the EU Office to cut off the contract with the company.
