Palmer: US wants to see bilateral recognition between Kosovo, Serbia

My goal is to get Belgrade and Pristina back to the negotiating table as soon as possible and secure a” agreement, US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans Matthew Palmer said in an interview for Tanjug. He has admitted to taking the post because he thinks it can be achieved [...]
He has acknowledged that he took the post because he thinks an agreement on normalising Pristina-Belgrade relations can be reached and that he will open a new European path to Serbia and Kosovo, Kosovo reports.
He saw this as a positive thing for the region, Europe and the US.
The resolution of the Kosovo issue is very important in my agenda. We have the opportunity and we want to take advantage of it.
“We have elections in Kosovo on 6 October, and they will be held in Serbia in the spring. We will have the opportunity to continue negotiations between the two elections, which we must use. We hope that both sides will seize this option”.
He has also voiced hope that Kosovo's future government would agree to suspend tariffs to allow dialogue to resume, and that Belgrade will stop lobling at other countries to attract recognition.
All of this, according to his words, “destroys the atmosphere” and makes it difficult to return to negotiations with a constructive spirit.
The US would like, I don't hide Palmer, to see bilateral recognition as a central point of the deal.
