Byty pressure accreditation for increased students in medicine

The outgoing Minister of Education, Science and Technology (MASHT) is insisting that his July decision to increase the number of students in general medicine and Infermier leadership at the Faculty of Medicine be approved. Kosovo's Agency for Accreditation has acknowledged that Bytyqi is pressuring the Council [...]
In the Kosovo Agency for Accreditation, they have acknowledged that Bytyqi is putting pressure on the State Council of Quality (Cord of the Kosovo Agency for Accreditation) to approve his request, Koha Ditore writes today.
According to the Administrative Guide for accrediting higher education institutions, the Agency for Accreditation is an independent agency, and its main mission is the assessment and accreditment of institutions of higher education and their study programmes. Decisions for increasing or not the number of students are made by the board of this agency.
Months ago the Faculty of Medicine had applied in the Senate to increase the number of students in this faculty. After that, Minister Bytyqi had decided to increase the number of students in the General Medicine and Infermier directions. This decision was for the General Medicine Branch to increase the number of students for 75 until 59 new students are added to the Infermier Branch.
This requirement was rejected by the State Council of Quality with the argument that there is no legal basis for increasing the number of students unless there is a decision by international experts.
STAT's outgoing minister, last week, during a meeting with the UPI Steering Council and with the dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Susan Manjuka-Kerliu, has demanded that his decision be approved.
