Since 2001, when the first post-war elections were held, Kosovo has had 6 prime ministers in a total of eight mandates. None of them have managed to complete the constitutional mandate of four years.
According to Radio Free Europe, almost each of the governments in Kosovo, of different party coalitions, has entered no-confidence motions and have been forced to resign by introducing Kosovo into early election cycles.
The first prime minister in the Kosovo government, Bajram Rexhepi, was elected in 2002, to stay in this position for more than two and a half years. Hashim Thaci was the prime minister who in two mandates managed to hold the post for over three and a half years.
While incumbent Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj is in office for an eighth year. Following the resignation of incumbent Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, political parties have already declared they are for extraordinary elections, while agreeing to disperse Parliament on August 22nd.
The failure to conclude the ruling mandates, according to political analysts in Kosovo, is a consequence of the instability of the coalitions themselves. Analysts tell the Free Europe radio that no government in Kosovo has been created on a stable programme, but with coalitions that priority have party interests for the division of leadership positions.
