Jordan Anchondo, 24, was one of 20 people who were shot dead in a mall in El Paso.
Her sister, Leta Jamrowski, said she was doing school shopping when the killer opened fire.
When the shooting started, she fell on her son two months in an attempt to save his life.
The child survived being shot with broken bones.
The deceased's son is being treated in a hospital in El Paso.
