Despite the law, the games of fate do not stop

But despite the fact that this is already illegal activity in the country, some are not holding back from exercising it.

Since the law's entry into force, there have been numerous cases when police have taken action to close down the premises and arrest the persons who are illegally exercising this activity. For five months 19 cases have been initiated and 33 persons arrested

Statistics by Kosovo police say that since March, all departments dealing with illegal lucky games have been registered and closed.

“Economic Crimes and Corruption Investigation Director, following the completion of the comprehensive operation on the entire territory of R. Kosovo, on the date 22,03.2019, has been identified and closed by all premises dealing with alleged criminal activities that fall into the domain of organising pyramid schemes”, the Kosovo Police Information Office has said.

Meanwhile, the police's response notes that 29 cases suspected of organising the game have been initiated since 22 March and 33 people have been arrested.

We've continued to take additional consecutive legal authorization actions under way. From the above time mentioned to this day, 29 cases have been initiated, suspected of criminal activity: “Organising of Piramidal scheme”, 33 people have been arrested and 24 criminal charges have been filed for 37 people incriminating in this figure of criminal act”, police points out for Express.

The last police action has been held in Gjakova on July 10th. The action, called “Basti”, has closed eight people suspected of organising the illegal activity of the game of fate.

Also in Gjakova were nine locations in which fortune games were suspected to be organised.

One of the locations that has been raided was a local resort that functioned as a steamer, while it was suspected that the illegal activities of fortune games were held there too.

The lucky games are named as illegal activity following the abolition of the Fate Games Law initiated by Kosovo Parliament deputies.

This change of Law has resulted from the death of two young people right in the playgrounds.

The Kosovo Assembly had voted the abolition of the Law that allows chance games to operate within Kosovo's territory, the Law has already entered into force, which prohibits this activity for the next 10 years.
