International media also report that sixteen people have been declared missing after a storm that has swept the region.
The Lechemia typhoon was warned to hit China on Saturday with winds up to 187 km an hour. Typhoon has now taken the lead in the province of Zheiyang and is expected to strike Shanghai, which is made up of a population of 20 million people.
Meanwhile, all subway flights and services have been canceled as the city is preparing for the storm, where reports indicate large flooding. Thousands of people in Shanghai have been warned to start preparations to evacuate, follows Vizion Plus.
Leakim is one of two typhoons currently located west of the Pacific Ocean.
