A report prepared in 2018 by security agencies gives a clear picture of how many Albanian citizens fought for the Islamic State in conflict areas in Syria and Iraq.
According to data, 144 people from Albania joined I SIS, among them 79 men, 27 women and 38 children. Based on security agencies' information, 26 Albanians allegedly lost their lives in Syria and Iraq, all men.
45 of the 144 who have stayed in conflict areas have returned to Albania. Thirty of them are men, seven women, and eight children. A year ago, it is said that 73 Albanians were still in conflict areas.
The way they are treated is not made public by authorities, as the plan is considered a secret.
Joining Albanians with terrorist groups of I SIS or Al Nusras started in 2012. 2014 marked the reduction of citizens from Albania who went to war zones. That is because the prosecution and police at the time conducted an action where a group of 11 were arrested. They propagandaed maturity and enabled Muslim believers to join the war. /tvclean. al
