Wessel: The values of the French Revolution are based on both our countries

The chairman of the Republic of Kosovo, Kadri Veselin, today, at a ceremony organised by the French Embassy in Pristina on the occasion of France's National Day, has said this day has inspired millions of people around the globe for centuries to resist captivity, injustice and discrimination. The attack on Bastija 230 years ago, Wessel added, not only constitutes the birth of modern France but also the prosperity of the values of freedom, equality and brotherhood and the spread of it around the world.
So I'm glad to be here with the descendants of those great revolutionaries in celebrating their national day. I personally feel privileged that during my mandate as Kosovo Assembly Speaker, we have had excellent bilateral visits and have built an unprecedented level of co-operation and friendship between our parliaments. I'm also proud that last year the Kosovo Assembly has become a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of Francophony”, Chief Parliamentary Minister Wessel stressed.
He added that this is also the holiday of Kosovo, because, as he said, the values of the French Revolution are in the heart and foundation of both our states.
I want to stress that Kosovo is also the product of those values, which with their holiness convinced the world's most democratic states like France to intervene 20 years ago to free us. I use this opportunity to express my deepest appreciation for France and the French people who have been found near us in the most difficult times. France has helped us win the war and is helping us today to gain peace”, Wessel said further.
Following his speech, the head of the Parliament praised President Makron's personal commitment to supporting Western Balkan countries to live in peace and good neighbourlyity.
French friend! On its 20th anniversary of freedom, Kosovo cultivates the greatest gratitude for your country for its assistance. At the same time, however, it is a duty to work harder on building a democratic state with rule of law and on the maximum respect for human and minority rights”, Wessel stressed.
He added that Kosovo's state priority is the even greater commitment to accelerating Euro-Atlantic integration by aiming at linking many partners like France within NATO and the European Union.
