One study found that out of more than 7,900 molecules within fruits and vegetables, 110 have the potential to combat tumors, broadcast news.
This was based on the similarity of molecules to compounds found in existing cancer medications.
Fruits and vegetables are rich in antioxidants called flavonoids, which give them color.
Researchers from London's Imperial College hope that they will one day create personal food passports that act as gastronomic vats to reduce the risk of the disease.
Research was conducted by Dr. Kiril Veselkov, of the department of surgery and cancer in college.
