Research, published today in the magazine PLOS Medicine analyzed the death toll for 2015, the latest year available.
Researchers analyzed air quality trends since 1999 to over 750 monitoring stations across the United States.
They specifically analyzed small, sensitive particles that can enter the bloodstream.
