Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, declared today during the accession ceremony of ten armoured vehicles from Russia that by the end of the year, the Russian state will send other weapons, which have already been bought or given in the form of donations.
Vuciq also confirmed the news reported on 26 July by the Associated Press that Romania had blocked the shipment of Russian war tanks and armoured vehicles to Serbia due to European Union sanctions against Moscow.
The head of the Serbian state did not tell reporters how recent armoured vehicles arrived, but clarified that everything has been done “in accordance with the law and contract related to that country”.
“I don't want to talk any longer about this, I can only say that we have respected international law standards and everything has been done in line with the deal with Russia”, Vuciq said following the claim that the official admission of BRDM-2MS armoured vehicles in Nis has become official.
Vuciq was quoted as saying that these weapons are needed for Serbia to retain sovereignty.
“We don't have plans for invasion”, he said, adding that you need only to protect the country”
He further announced that by the end of the year, four Mi-35 fighter helicopters, three Mi-17 transport helicopters, as well as other BRD-2MS and T-72 tanks from Russia will arrive. /tch
