President Emmanuel Macron has voiced determination to block any enlargement of the EU until deep reforms within the union are realised.
After the summit held today in Brussels, Macron said: “I will reject any kind of enlargement before a deep reform of our institutional functioning” can be achieved, says Tch.
The EU has stepped in after the European Parliament elections, as leaders of 28 member states are failing to elect leaders who will lead the union for the next five years.
France and the Netherlands are the two states blocking the opening of negotiations for Tirana and Skopje, while Germany has voiced itself in favour of the two Balkan states.
