Jill Sarchet, 51-year-old, became suspicious when the leaves of the tree “sycamore<x1-year-old> became brown.
She discovered about 50 holes drilled into the base of the 30m-long tree on the edge of her house at Worsthorn-with-Hurstwood, near Burnley, Lancashire.
It is also believed that someone is sneaking into her property during the darkness and is injecting the tree with poison through the holes.
Tree experts now say there is a very big chance that this tree, which is protected by the Order of the Tree Preservation Council (KRRP), will die.
This behavior is completely unreasonable and unnecessary. Also, this is one of the oldest and most important trees in Burnley and has been here much longer than the person responsible for this”, Sarchet said, mother of two.
Anyone who deliberately destroys or harms a tree protected by the KRP can be sent to court and fined up to 22,000 euros.
Also, Srchet has now spent about 550 euros on building a fence around her garden to prevent vandals.
My late father spent several weekends building the fence. This should offer not only additional security, but it may also prevent any damage that can be done to the tree, which may already be incorrigible”, said 51-year-old, conveys Koha.net.
Tree expert Greg Thompson has travelled to Burnley from Cumbria to give his appreciation about the state of this 200-year-old tree.
He warned a very large <x0shans that the tree would have to leave” before adding: “Tree could die completely in the next few months”.
