Ruari O'Connell, the outgoing British ambassador, has said that Kosovo's young deserve good education known internationally.
O'Connell has said that the State Council of Quality's decision to withdraw university accreditation is a difficult decision, but that according to him, these universities must meet certain criteria if European countries want to recognise their diplomas.
“Two principles are vital for Kosovo's future. Kosovo's young deserve a good education known internationally. Independent institutions should be allowed to operate independently without political interference. The State Council of Quality's decision to withdraw accreditation is a difficult decision. But universities must meet certain criteria, especially if they want other European countries to recognise their diplomas”, O'Connell has said.
Through a Facebook text, the outgoing ambassador has said that whether universities have failed despite warnings to meet minimum quality requirements is their fault, not the Council's fault.
The British government and the British Accreditation Council have tried to help public and private universities meet quality requirements. Now this issue is a real test for Kosovo. The result will show whether Kosovo's educational system is built to serve its citizens and national interest, or to serve a close group of people and private interests”, OCEConnell concluded.
