The four prisoners convicted of drug-related criminal acts will face the death penalty, prison authorities have announced, writes The Independent, broadcast Klan Kosova.
President Maithripala Sirius ended a halt on Wednesday imposed on the death penalty, which has been in force since 1976.
The move aims to lower the drug trade, and political analysts say it will boost Syria's popularity on the eve of elections that will take place later this year.
Rape, drug trafficking and murder are all punishable by the death penalty in Sri Lanka, but there have been no executions for 43 years.
