The first results are expected in the coming hours, Reuters reports.

The candidates for the post of Istanbul chairman are Ekrem Imamoglu from the opposition Republican People's Party (CP) and Binali Yildirim, candidate of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) of President Recep Tayip Erdogan.

In the March elections, Imamoglu won with close results, but after the AKP's complaint, they were cancelled due to irregularities.

More than 10.6 million voters have the right to vote in today's Istanbul elections.
