The container was blocked three days ago by the Dutchman Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority in collaboration with Dutch customs.

The pesticide shipment was filed during a border inspection the authorities conduct to avoid entering illegal cargo through containers into the area outside the EU.

The shipment of Chinese pesticides has been purchased by an Albanian company that deals with import-export and the trade of veterinary drugs. Referring to the suspicious statements of retailers, Nutrivet BV, a Dutch company, that in Albania there is no record of these pesticides, yes, and of buyers that in Albania there is no legal obligation to register biocids, the representative of the Dutch Food and Security Authority contacted Albanian authorities by drawing attention that in all EU member states, but also in many third countries, pesticides should be tested to be safe for people, animals, plants and so on.

And only if pesticides are safe enough then do the product registration by the relevant authority, in most cases the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Health or the Victorary Service. Biocides containing cargo for Albania have names: Cypermethrin 100 G / LC, Deltamethrin 50 G / LEC and Amitraz 125 G / LEC and none of them are registered. The Dutch side requested information on whether the import of these Chinese pesticides is allowed in Albania and their use by Albanian farmers.

The health ministry and the Public Health Institute that informed the Dutch side that none of the Chinese products destined for Albania is authorised to enter the Albanian market and be used in public health. On the basis of Albanian legislation, all products that are traded or used on the territory of the Republic of Albania submit to the registration procedure and that are registered only products that are previously registered in one of the EU countries.
