When they did not return to the base camp as planned, a search-saving team set out to search for them. However, local officials have warned that heavy rainfall and snow are hampering the search operation.
“We have activated our resources to find climbers as they did not return to base camp, but bad weather is hindering operation”, said Vijay Kumar Jogdand, official of the Pithoragarh region.
An Indian Air Force helicopter is expected to be used Sunday morning. Among the hikers are four British climbers, two Americans, one Australian and one Indian.
They were being led by experienced British climber Martin Moran, whose company has organized a lot of climbing into the Himalayas.
