Following the annulment of the 12m-euro project by the European Union for the construction of waste depots, the Group for Jury and Political Studies (GLPS) has also reacted to the decision.
According to them, this is the next loss of EU IPA funds, and at the same time, it is an indication of the way Kosovo is positioning itself in EU enlargement policy.
“Such losses of IPA funds do not only have financial weight, but rather contribute to undermining the image of the Republic of Kosovo as a serious partner in the integration process. Not only that, but with such losses Kosovo continues to leave other countries in the region such as Serbia, Northern Macedonia and Montenegro, which not only benefits many times more IPA assistance from the EU compared to Kosovo, but are treating their image through adequate and responsible management of such funds”, it is said in response.
GLPS says the government simply failed to find a public property where it would enable the deployment of the toxic waste plant, in which this EU investment would be located.
“It expressed deep disappointment with the action and inability of Kosovo institutions to understand the importance of financial assistance offered in this case, as well as their failure to commit that Kosovo will have the opportunity to benefit such projects in the future. This approach except that it is a failure to understand the importance of environmental protection, the same is the indication that Kosovo institutions do not have the minimum capacity to benefit from foreign donations”, the GLPS statement concludes.
