UN concerned with tensions in Kosovo

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has voiced concern over tensions between Kosovo and Serbia, and has appealed to both sides to refrain from statements and promotional provocations that could provoke confusion and have demanded that, without delay, remove all ongoing barriers to dialogue. [...]
The serious “Tensions between Belgrade and Pristina further present barriers to continuing productive dialogue and provoke concern among local and international officials due to possible deterioration of stability”, it says, according to “FoNet”, in the UN Secretary General's new report on the situation in Kosovo, which will be addressed 10 June at the UN Security Council session, broadcast Koha.net.
Seeking to remove the ongoing barriers to dialogue, Guterres has said that taxes on goods from Serbia are still in effect, as well as Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq's warnings, for counter-mass against Pristina if no taxes are lifted.
Guterres has stressed that, from his latest report, no meeting has been held between Kosovo and Serbia representatives under EU leadership, though in late April the two sides met at the Berlin summit organised by Germany and France.
The UN chief says that from his latest report, subsequently in the last six months, “in Kosovo have returned 43 persons, out of whom 34 are Serbian”.
It is also stressed that in the past six months, several incidents have occurred in mixed ethnicity settlements.
From the adoption of UN UN Resolution 1244 in 1999, the Security Council has held from four sessions per year for Kosovo, but, at the request of the US and Britain, future reports will be twice a year.
