Using narcotics substances in Kosovo is at a disturbing level, even with a reduction in the age of users.
Until 10 years ago, the average age of starting drug use has been 21.4, and this year it is 16.2.
Director of the rehabilitation centre of troubled drug users, “Labyrinth”, Safet Blakaj has said that this has caused the easy access of young people to narcotics.
This has made easy access to marijuana or discussions about marijuana for legalization or as a drug. I think the trend across Europe is the one who has largely influenced use even among young people in Kosovo”, Safet Blakaj told RTV Dukagjin.
According to Blakaj, the percentage of female gender users has also changed.
The drug use has been dominant in men. By 2010, only 7.6 percent of drug users have been female, while the situation is changing. When it comes to the types of marijuana and cocaine drugs, the percentage of women using these drugs is on the rise from above”, Safet Blakaj further added.
While, according to police statistics in the first six months of this year, 725 persons have been arrested for drug trafficking cases and 520kg of marijuana and 3kg of heroin have been confiscated.
