Austria's MPs formally elected the first woman leader after her predecessor collapsed after a video scandal.
Brigitte Bierlein will be the country's interim Chancellor until the new interim elections are held in September this year, writes The Independent, Periscopi.
The 69-year-old, former prosecutor, will lead the government with non-party experts. It has no formal political ties, even though it is viewed as highly conservative.
Sebastian Kurz, who had been Chancellor since December 2017, lost confidence last week after his current right-right coalition partner was caught in a video until promising contracts in exchange for political favours.
He can be re-elected Chancellor, however, as his party is doing quite well in polls this year's elections, even with an electoral increase of 7 per cent. /Periscope
