The number of new asylum seekers in the European Union has increased significantly in the first months of 2019, writes news agency dpa. This is due to the Venezuela crisis. The EU warning system that provides the data for the first four months of this year notes that 206,500 asylum applications have been registered in this space, compared to 179,000 at the same time last year. Albanians Behind Venezuelans and Colombians
At the same time, the number of asylum requests from states whose citizens enter the Schengen zone without visas has increased. Among them, Venezuela, Colombia, Albania and Georgia. Venezuela, hit hard by the economic crisis, was ranked in March after Syria and ahead of Afghanistan among the main countries where asylum seekers come seeking assistance. According to the report of “Fukedeen-Prappe”, the number of asylum seekers from Venezuela has increased by 12% in the four months of this year.
