The proposal, dubbed “Europa”, was adopted on June 11th 2008 at a special session of the 120-member Parliament as the Republic of Kosovo state's Himm, with 72 votes for, 15 against and 5 abstentions.
The composer Mendi Meqih is the author of textless melody, selected among 134 proposals presented in the public competition for Himmin. The Commission for State Symbols of Kosovo had sent three proposals to the country, while the Parliamentary Chiefs and Chiefs of Parliamentary Groups voted only the first proposal with the figure “Europa”.
At the plenary session, MPs stood up to honour the anthem of the Republic of Kosovo, broadcast in the Assembly Hall.
On the eve of June 15, 2008, the day of the constitution's entry into force, the new Kosovo state with the anthem fulfilled the state symbols, after the Assembly had also adopted the flag and coat of arms since February 17th, on the day of its declaration of Independence.
The state anthem of the Republic of Kosovo had a huge competition, out of 134 110 proposals were from Kosovo, while 24 of the other states of the world -- 7 from France, 5 from Albania, from 2 from Germany, Sweden and Slovenia, from 1 from the US, Great Britain, Holland, Russia, New Zealand and Croatia.
Himmin's author, composer Meqir shortly after the adoption of the melody, has said that he expects it to be done with text in time.
