President Trump has declared national emergency to deal with what he claims to be a crisis on the southern US border.
Jesus Sead, Mexico's top diplomat for North America, said the tax would be a disaster.
“If this is set, we need to react strongly”, he told reporters.
During his election campaign and throughout his time in office, President Trump has sought funds to build a wall on the US-American border.
