A 16-year-old girl reportedly killed herself in Malaysia after posting a survey on her account in Instagram asking her followers whether she should die or not, and 69% of the answers were unjustly.
Police east of the state of Sarawak, Malaysia, said the girl, who did not identify her, had posted a photo poll spreading the message: “Very important, help me choose Death/Life”. Since most of the answers had been “death”, she had killed herself, reports The Guardian, translates Periscope.
A lawyer demanded that those who had voted so that she would die be brought to justice for inciting suicide.
Ramcarpal Singh, a lawyer and MP in the northwest state of Penang, said: “Would that girl be alive today if most of my friends were to disunit themselves?”
Youth and Sports Minister from Malaysia Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the tragedy stressed the need for nationwide discussions about mental health in this country. “I am sincerely concerned about the mental state of our young people,” the minister said in question.
In February, the Instagram had announced that it would set sensitive screens to block images of self-defence. /Periscope
