People who attend university are less likely to suffer from a heart attack or a stroke because they are healthier than one study.
Scientists found for every 3, 6 years spent in education, people had a weaker body mass index.
They also found that the same time as what was needed to earn a university degree also lowered blood pressure.
Being overweight can lead to high blood pressure or diabetes, both known to raise the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
Scientists already knew that the risk of cardiovascular disease is lower for people who spend more time in education.
The new study was conducted by Imperial College London, University of Bristol, Cambridge University and Oxford University.
The academics wanted to find out exactly why spending more time in education in three to six extra years could reduce the risk of heart disease.
