Kevin Mallory was found guilty of some spying acts after a two-week trial last June.
The 62-year-old held a high security position and drew access to important documents.
He was convicted of selling secrets to China for $25,000. The evidence in his trial included a video surveillance showing Mallory scanning classified documents into a digital memory card in a post office.
He also travelled to Shanghai to meet with a Chinese agent in March and April 2017, the Justice Department said.
