During the meeting, the two conversationators shared the thought that to strengthen the pan-European character of this organisation, to overcome institutional, political and financial problems, the joint contribution of all member states is needed.
Minister of Task Gent Cakaj suggested to the Secretary-General of the KiE Albania's involvement in deep and important internal reforms under the strengthening of democratic institutions, rule of law, defence and respect of human rights, for which there has been the help and support of the Council of Europe.
Also briefed Cakaj on the work being done by the Albanian government for the realisation of some foreign policy goals and priorities such as European integration, the OSCE's leadership 2020, and the acquisition of a non-aminal seat at the Security Council.
Referring to the contribution the Council of Europe makes to the Balkan region, where UN Secretary-General Jagland has had a special role, Task Minister Gent Cakaj suggested that Kosovo's membership in this organisation serves protection of the organisation's values, the development of standards related to fundamental rights, and represents an added value to the organisation as a whole.
Council of Europe Secretary-General Jagland wrapped up his second mandate in autumn of this year, for which Minister of Task Cakaj thanked him for the contribution made to the organisation's management and overcoming the problems and challenges it faces through reforming policies.
The secretary-general thanked Minister for the positive role our country has played, assessments on its report about the Council's future challenges, and commended him for reforms undertaken by our country.
