The new regulation, voted ten days ago, conditions passing information through the State Chief Office. No top state prosecutor can speak to the media about the specific <x0 cases of public interest” without announcing the chief state prosecutor, currently Alexander Lumez. What separate “contradictions” is not exactly correct at all, Koha Ditore writes today.
The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council is “singled out” for the content of the regulation, saying that prior to its adoption comments have been requested by journalists through the Association of Kosovo Journalists (AGK), but that according to this council, the same have not returned.
AGK leaders have stated that “due to technical causes” have not seen e-mail and therefore could not be included in giving recommendations.
Among the differences, that this regulation envisions, is also the non-involvement of co-ordination prosecutors. Co-ordination prosecutors for the media have been appointed last year following last AGK's request. Each prosecutor has appointed a guardian prosecutor to facilitate communication and approach to journalists. There is no longer this communication structure in the new regulations.
The paper has secured the final draft of the regulation, which has been voted on.
