Police Director: Tensions in the north on election eve

Kosovo's north is now tense on the eve of elections, but threats, blackmail or even violence in general will not be tolerated, Kosovo Police Director Rashit Qalaj said on Wednesday, during his report to the Commission on the Rights of Communities. With him, the minister of [...] has reported on security in the country.
Along with him, Interior Affairs Minister Ekrem Mustafa reported security in the country. The two have claimed that incidents that have interethnic motives are declining. For preventing violence, Qalaj has said they are taking the necessary measures, along with other security actors.
Asked by MPs for the current situation in the north, when local elections are expected to be held, Qalaj has said it is obvious that the situation has been tense, Koha Ditore writes today.
The situation is currently stable, although beautifully tense now on the eve of elections. Citizens are also under tension”, he has stressed.
However, he has warned that changes will soon take place in the regional structure and in several police stations in that section.
With several meetings, which we've had with the American Embassy and other colleagues, we've come up with a clear message that police and politics are two very different things. We need to focus solely on police matters. Meanwhile, obligations stemming from the agreements in Brussels are another segment. However, it is unforgivable and there is no point in preventing acts of arson, throwing grenades, various threats to citizens”, Qalaj said.
