O'Connell: Kosovo-Serbia deal is not yet expected to be good, not fast

The ambassador of Great Britain to Kosovo, Ruairi O'Connell, has visited Mitrovica today, with which he has talked to citizens and young people on both sides of this city, to get to know their problems and challenges closely. He's in the north standing at the headquarters of the nongovernmental organisation Activ, and south in [...]
He in the north has stayed at the headquarters of the non-governmental organisation Activić, while south in RTV Mitrovica's offices, where he has talked with students and students of various fields.
Ambassador O'Connell set out as a very important need for peace, communication between the citizens of the south and north of this city.
According to him, there is no reason for the Mitrovicas to feel tense, and calls for lowering tensions should make both leaders and citizens.
“Every human, each individual can contribute to the peace of Kosovo, creating human relations. I think the people of Mitrovica, in the south and north, demand the same thing, the information about what happened, transparency, this is very important. I know people feel tense but I think there's no reason to fan tensions. In fact, it's important that not only leaders but citizens do their best to reduce tensions and create space for everyone to talk to each other, O'Connell said.
Regarding the meeting between Kosovo and Serbia delegations on April 29th in Berlin, the British ambassador said it is a very important initiative for the process undertaken by German and French governments.
He said he does not expect final agreements immediately, but that such a thing could happen this year.
According to him, the important thing is that the agreement is good, not quick, which will strengthen stability, be in the interest of both sides and have the support of citizens.
We are currently in phase when an agreement is expected at each meeting. I think it takes time for a real process and for reconciliation between Kosovo and Serbia for a long-term agreement. We're not expecting deals right now, but I think it's a very important initiative of German and French governments... I hope there is a possibility, there is an international focus, but what would be very important for us, that the deal is good, not fast, to strengthen stability, to be in the interest of both sides and to have the support of citizens”, O'Connell stressed.
